A lapping machine was build, in which polycrystalline diamond slurry was circulated at many times. A sapphire was lapped using the lapping machine with slurry circulation. The polycrystalline diamond abrasive diameter and the sapphire stock removal rate were measured. The distributions of diamond abrasive diameter were discussed. There was a certain long-size diameter value of the polycrystalline diamond abrasive for contributing to the sapphire lapping (in this experiment, long-size diameter value 2.5~4.0μm). The lapping characteristics of sapphire were kept up, as micro-edges of the polycrystalline diamond abrasive were given rebirth.
